Haiti

Dr. Jay Dutton has lead two reconstructive surgery trips to Haiti, including in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. “Seven years ago, with the help of Rush Global Health, I found a project that has become very dear to my heart: Giving Back – Medical Volunteer Mission,” says Dr. Dutton. “Every year since, I have traveled to Haiti to offer surgical aid to the people of impoverished villages.”

Immediately after the 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti in January of 2010, Dr. Dutton made two trips down there to offer his assistance by leading the reconstructive surgical team. The medical services were severely broken after the earthquake with over 50 health care facilities completely destroyed and over 300,000 people in need of medical attention. “Our main focus of the trip was to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries in addition to pediatric head and neck surgeries,” explains Dr. Dutton. “There was such a great need for medical assistance that it was an easy decision to make.”
